Choosing between resin shingles and cement tiles for rural house construction is quite a dilemma, as both are considered to be made with new technology. Although their descriptions seem particularly robust for their respective benefits, it's still difficult to pinpoint their drawbacks today. However, their advantages over traditional clay tiles are quite evident, especially in terms of their lightweight nature and installation performance, which are unparalleled by regular tiles. As for which is better between the two, it can only be said that each has its own merits. Next, we will compare cement tiles and resin shingles to see which one the public deems superior.

One, cement tiles

When we think of cement tiles, we might envision the asbestos-cement tiles of the last century. Of course, that's not what we're referring to today. The cement tiles we're talking about are actually a type of colored cement tile, also known as colored concrete tiles or simply colored tiles. Made from a mixture of cement, sand, paint, and other raw materials in a well-balanced ratio, and then molded and high-pressure pressed, they are commonly referred to as cement tiles.

The characteristics of cement tiles include:

1. Overall Performance. Cement tiles offer excellent waterproof and frost-resistant properties due to their high density and strength. Additionally, they are cost-effective and have a long service life. The larger area of a single tile also means that the weight per square area is significantly lighter than traditional tiles, resulting in a much higher efficiency in roofing.

2. Variety in Types. Cement tiles can also be divided into two major categories based on production processes: roller-pressed tiles and mold-pressed tiles. They can be further classified into three main types based on appearance: S-shaped tiles, corrugated tiles, and flat tiles, which may cater to the varying requirements and preferences of rural villa roofs.

2. Vast color variety is available due to the diverse production equipment and techniques for cement tiles, allowing almost limitless color options. They can be crafted in solid, single colors or combined in a multitude of hues.

3. Application Scope. Primarily used for multi-story and low-rise buildings, suitable for both rural residential houses and villas, as well as high-rise buildings, for waterproofing and heat insulation.

Resin Shingles

Resin tiles are a type of roofing tile made by extrusion molding with ASA weather-resistant engineering resin and PVC wear-resistant resin. They can be broadly categorized into natural resin tiles and synthetic resin tiles. However, due to the scarcity of materials, natural resin tiles are rarely seen in today's market, and thus, synthetic resin tiles are predominantly used in rural construction. Moreover, with the low threshold for resin tiles, a high amount of recycled materials, and the severe discoloration and aging of low-quality resin tiles, as the saying goes, "you get what you pay for." Therefore, when purchasing resin tiles, it is crucial to be vigilant.

The characteristics of resin shingles mainly include:

1. Overall Performance. The resin tiles feature stable color, rich hues, excellent sound insulation, and fire and corrosion resistance. Moreover, they are easy to install, as the effective width of synthetic resin tiles is generally 800mm or 960mm, which makes them highly efficient for covering.

2. Eco-Friendly: Traditionally, environmental concerns are not a major issue for tiles, as they have been inherently eco-friendly for thousands of years. However, in the modern construction materials industry, eco-friendly options are becoming more scarce. Composite resin tiles, which do not contain asbestos or radioactive elements and are recyclable, still qualify as a relatively eco-friendly choice.

3. Resistance to pressure and impact. According to tests, the resin tiles can withstand a steel ball weighing 1 kilogram dropping from a height of 3 meters without cracking, which gives us greater peace of mind when using them.

4. Insulation and Heat Retention Performance. The thermal conductivity of synthetic resin tiles is about 1/5 of that of concrete tiles, so, from the perspective of insulation and heat retention, resin tiles are significantly better than concrete tiles.

Certainly, as mentioned above, the advantages, such as waterproofing, heat insulation, pressure resistance, and corrosion resistance, are not significant when compared to materials like glazed tiles. These are innate qualities that a normal tile should possess. In fact, the main advantages of these two types of tiles over traditional ones are cost savings and ease of installation.
