Sowing:
Lavender seeds are small, ideal for seedling cultivation and transplanting. In warm regions, seedlings can be grown year-round at any time, while in cold regions, it's best to plant in spring. Before sowing, level the soil and water it thoroughly, then let the water soak in. Evenly spread the seeds, cover them with a layer of fine soil about 2-3 times the thickness of the seeds, and then cover with straw or plastic film to retain moisture.
II. Irrigation:
Lavender thrives in dry conditions and is not tolerant of moisture. When keeping it at home, avoid frequent watering. Ensure the potting soil or ground does not accumulate water, and maintain good ventilation. Water thoroughly once after repotting, and after it survives, follow the principle of "water when dry, water when wet." Be cautious when watering; do not let water directly touch the leaves or splash onto the branches and leaves to prevent diseases. You can also lay a layer of small pebbles on the surface of the potting soil for both aesthetics and disease prevention. If using tap water, first leave it in the sun for two days before use.
Three: Rizhao
Lavender is a long-day plant, where sunlight plays a crucial role in its growth and essential oil formation. Over-shading can lead to excessive growth and susceptibility to diseases. However, during extreme heat, some shading can be applied to prevent direct sunlight exposure.
Fertilization:
Lavender has low fertilizer requirements. During its rapid growth in spring (March to May), it can be top-dressed with a nitrogen, phosphorus, potassium (NPK) composite fertilizer monthly, by watering with a 1% solution. Excessive nitrogen fertilizer can lead to excessive growth.
