LNG CNG Station Storage Tank Usage Precautions:

1. Tanks with double root valves, and the valves near the tank, should be kept open.

2. During unloading, it is recommended that the tank's maximum filling capacity not exceed 90% of its effective volume (manufacturers specify between 85%-95% of the geometric volume), and the remaining capacity should not be less than 10%.

3. High pressure in an LNG tank does not necessarily indicate a problem with the tank itself. Consider the entire system's heat loss and storage time, etc. Generally, when the pressure exceeds 1.1 MPa, a pressure relief must be conducted. Long-term high-pressure operation can affect the lifespan of the vacuum in the tank's sandwich layer.

4. If there is a significant and prolonged "sweating" or frosting on the tank and the pressure is rapidly and continuously increasing, consider the vacuum failure. Immediate action is required, including manual pressure relief and transferring the LNG liquid inside the tank.

5. Suggest conducting vacuum tests on the storage tank annually. For hot tanks, a vacuum level less than 1Pa is considered acceptable. For cold tanks, a vacuum level less than 0.5Pa (0.00375 TOF) is deemed合格.

6. Tanks must not be transported with liquid. When left unused for extended periods, the LNG liquid inside the tank should be drained.

7. Storage tanks are pressure vessels. According to the "Safety Supervision Regulations for Pressure Vessel Technology" promulgated and implemented by the People's Republic of China, installation, maintenance, and modification of pressure vessels require the unit to have corresponding qualifications to notify the local quality supervision department. Only after obtaining a permit can installation, maintenance, or modification proceed.

LNG Tank Characteristics Requirements

Low-temperature resistant

The boiling point of liquefied natural gas at atmospheric pressure is -162°C. Therefore, LNG storage tanks must have excellent low-temperature resistance and insulation properties.

(2) High safety requirements

Due to the storage of low-temperature liquids inside the tank, in the event of an accident, the refrigerated liquid would evaporate in large quantities, with the vaporization amount being approximately 625 times the original refrigerated state, forming an explosive mixture in the atmosphere. Therefore, tanks must be designed with a double-walled structure and employ sealing principles. In the event of a leak in the first layer, the second layer can completely seal the leaked liquid and the evaporated gases, ensuring storage safety.

(3) Special Material.

The inner container requires low-temperature resistance and is made of austenitic stainless steel, while the outer cylinder is made from Q345R ordinary low-carbon alloy steel plate.

(4) Insulation measures are stringent.

Due to the maximum temperature difference between inside and outside the tank reaching up to 200°C, the tank must have excellent insulation properties to maintain a temperature of -160°C inside. High-performance insulation material should be filled between the inner and outer tanks. The insulation material at the bottom of the tank must also have sufficient pressure-bearing capacity. (5) Good seismic performance

The seismic requirements for general buildings are to crack but not collapse under specified seismic loads. To ensure the safety of the storage tank under unexpected loads, the tank must have excellent seismic performance. It is essential to ensure that the tank does not sustain damage under the given seismic intensity. (6) Strict construction requirements

Tanks' weld seams must undergo 100% magnetic particle inspection (MT) and 100% vacuum leak tightness test (VBT). Strict selection of insulation materials is required, and the specified procedures must be followed during construction.

2. LNG Tank Structure

The low-temperature storage tank features a double-layer structure. The inner tank stores low-temperature liquids, withstands the pressure and low temperatures of the medium, and is made of low-temperature-resistant alloy steel (0Crl8Ni9). The outer shell serves as a protective layer for the inner tank, maintaining a certain distance to form an insulating space. It bears the gravitational loads of the inner tank and the medium, as well as the vacuum negative pressure of the insulating layer. The outer shell does not come into contact with the low temperature and is made of container steel. The insulating layer is mostly filled with mica sand and achieves high vacuum. The evaporation rate of the low-temperature storage tank is generally below 0.2%.
