Paraffin wax naphthenate has a nearly 80-year history of use in China as a collector for oxidized minerals, remaining a primary agent in many mineral flotation processes due to its strong collecting capabilities. The development of this reagent originated from the production process of synthetic fatty acids, specifically the first three steps: oxidation of paraffin; saponification and heat treatment of the oxide. As a result, most manufacturers of oxidized paraffin wax naphthenate, with adjustments to raw materials, still utilize the production conditions of synthetic fatty acids. In recent years, the soaring price of oil has swiftly replaced synthetic fatty acids with plant-based fatty acids, leading some large-scale synthetic fatty acid enterprises in China to gradually exit the market. As a collector for current mineral flotation, oxidized paraffin wax naphthenate has completely differentiated itself from the concept of synthetic fatty acids.
