    What to Consider When Choosing a Furnace Flame Detector?

    1. The flame detector is a key component of fire protection systems. It is designed to accurately detect flames in the furnace and burners, boasting sufficient sensitivity and anti-interference capabilities. The components have certain temperature resistance, anti-oxidation properties, and service life, ensuring reliable transmission of measurement signals.

    The type of flame detector probe to be used should be selected based on the characteristics of the flame being inspected related to the fuel. Flame detectors that have not undergone a sufficient period of operation testing and have not been certified as qualified should not be promoted for use.

    2. The installation location and quantity of flame detectors are related to the specific structure of the furnace and burners, as well as the characteristics of the fuel and the required functions of the furnace safety protection system. When designing the furnace, consideration should be given to the arrangement and field of view of the flame detectors.

    Upon commissioning, on-site debugging should be conducted to determine the optimal monitoring vantage points. When monitoring the full furnace flame, flame detectors should be installed above the upper burners on all four sides of the furnace; when monitoring a single burner or a layer of flame, at least one flame detector should be equipped on the lower, upper, and middle layers of burners. For the flame detector probes of burners, they should be aimed at the sensitive flame segments. When the flame may drift out of the observation area, the installation position of the probe should be adjusted. During design and installation, the possibility for operators to make such adjustments should be considered.

    3. To ensure the stable operation of the flame detector probe and prevent contamination from smoke and dust, a dedicated fan with sufficient air pressure and volume (with a backup) should supply filtered clean cooling air to the probe. This ensures that when the furnace chamber experiences positive pressure, the smoke does not come into direct contact with the probe, thereby avoiding the probe components exceeding the allowable temperature.

    4. Flame detector components should have self-checking functionality, capable of automatically sending signals when malfunctions occur.
