Define steel sheet piling.
Sheet piles are edge sections equipped with a connecting device, which can be freely combined to form a steel structure with continuous and tightly fitted retaining or water-proof walls. Cold-bent steel sheet piles are continuously rolled into shape by a cold bending machine, and the side locking slots allow for continuous overlapping to form a steel sheet pile wall. The steel pile styles include U-shaped, Z-shaped, L-shaped, S-shaped, straight-line, and other large-scale steel sheet piles in dozens of specifications.
Piling is a new type of building material that plays a crucial role in various engineering projects such as bridge cofferdams, large pipeline installations, temporary trench excavations, and retaining walls for soil, water, and sand docks, cargo walls, and embankment protection. Originating in Europe at the beginning of the 20th century, piling is primarily available in two forms: cold-bent thin-walled light-rolled and hot-rolled. The former has a higher degree of processing and is limited in use. Therefore, hot-rolled steel sheet piling has become the mainstream in the development of sheet piling products and has been rapidly applied and推广ed worldwide, particularly in developed countries.
2. The manufacturing process of steel sheet piles.
Steel sheet pile products can be categorized into two types based on production process: cold-formed thin-walled steel sheet piles and hot-rolled steel sheet piles.
Cold-formed steel sheet pile
薄 plates, cold bent and shaped (common thickness: 8mm to 14mm), are cost-effective to manufacture and offer competitive pricing, with more flexible size control. However, the primitive processing method results in uniform thickness across the pile sections, leading to increased steel usage due to non-optimized cross-sectional dimensions. The shape of the locking section is difficult to control, and the joints do not fit securely, allowing water leakage.受限 by the capabilities of the cold bending processing equipment, only low-strength steel grades and thinner products can be produced. The high stress generated during the cold bending process makes the piles prone to tearing during use, limiting their application significantly.

Open-die rolling, rail beam rolling mill, or rolling mill products undergo high-temperature roller forming, featuring standardized dimensions, excellent performance, reasonable cross-section, and superior quality.
Based on cross-sectional shapes, they are categorized into basic types such as U-shaped, Z-shaped, straight-line, H-shaped, and tubular, and are combined with various styles.

3. Technical specifications.
Cold-bent steel sheet piles have a narrow range of applications in engineering construction, often serving as supplementary materials. Hot-rolled steel sheet piles have become the dominant product in engineering applications. Sheet piles are constructed on the basis of steel sheet piles. On May 14, 2007, the General Administration of Quality Supervision, Inspection, and Quarantine issued the "Standard for Hot-Rolled U-Shaped Steel Sheet Piles," which came into effect on December 1, 2007. Cold-bent steel sheet piles are formed continuously by a cold bending machine, with lateral locking lips that can be continuously overlapped to create a steel structural sheet pile wall. Cold-bent steel sheet piles are made from thin plates (commonly 8mm to 14mm thick) that are processed through cold bending and press molding. They are cost-effective, inexpensive, and offer flexible sizing control. However, due to the rudimentary method of pile rental and processing, the uniform thickness of the pile sections cannot be optimized, leading to increased steel usage; the shape of the locking lips is difficult to control, and the clips at the joints are not tight enough to prevent water leakage. Additionally, limited by the capabilities of cold bending processing equipment, only products with lower strength grades and thinner thicknesses can be produced; and the large stresses generated during the cold bending process can cause the piles to tear easily during use, posing significant limitations in application. The application range of cold-bent steel sheet piles in engineering construction is narrow, and they are mostly used as supplementary materials. The characteristics of cold-bent sheet piles: According to the actual conditions of the project, selecting an economical and reasonable cross-section achieves standardization in engineering design, saving 10-15% of materials compared to similar performance hot-rolled steel sheet piles, significantly reducing construction costs.
4. Advantages and Uses of Steel Sheet Piling Rentals.
Advantages of Steel Sheet Piling:
The fundamental structure of sheet pile: 1. Steel sheet pile; 2. Joints at both ends; 3. Forming a wall on the ground or in the water.
Due to its unique structure, it boasts distinct advantages:
(1) Continuous walls composed of sheet pile have high strength and rigidity, with a light inherent structure.
(2) Excellent watertightness; the locking joints of the steel sheet piles are tightly sealed, naturally preventing seepage.
(3) Easy to construct, adaptable to various geological and soil conditions, it reduces the amount of excavation for foundation pits and occupies less space during operations.
(4) Durable, with a lifespan that can extend up to 50 years depending on the usage environment.
(5) Construction is environmentally friendly, with a significant reduction in soil and concrete usage, effectively protecting land resources.
(6) Highly efficient, ideal for rapid flood, landslide, sandstorm, and earthquake relief and preventive operations.
Material can be recycled and reused, with a potential for 20 to 30 uses in temporary projects.
(8) Compared to monolithic structures, its walls are light and highly adaptable to deformation, making it suitable for various geological disaster prevention and control.
Additionally, steel sheet piling can address and resolve a series of issues during excavation, providing necessary safety, timely disaster relief, reduced site requirements, and independence from weather conditions; simplifies complex procedures for material or system performance testing; ensures adaptability and good interchangeability.
b. Uses of Steel Sheet Piling Rentals:
Steel piles are widely used in subway construction, tunneling, bridge cofferdams, wharfs, municipal engineering, deep excavation for civil construction, trenches, pipelines, and basements, serving as essential barriers against soil erosion, water, and providing support in engineering projects.
Scope of use can be categorized into: residential buildings, temporary buildings, temporary buildings, and rescue engineering projects:
(1) **Facilities Include: Dock, unloading area, breakwater, retaining walls, seawall, jetty, mooring posts, shipyard, ship repair facility, gates, downspouts, foundation reinforcement, anti-erosion measures, and waterproof walls.**
(2) Temporary structures include: road closures, temporary embankments, diversion works, temporary artificial islands, bridge cofferdams, and retaining walls for temporary trenching of large pipelines.
(3) Rescue buildings include: flood control, landslides, collapses, and quicksand.
