Sanitary grade stainless steel pipes should not exceed a pressure of 0.6 MPa for pipes with nominal diameters of 300 mm or less, while larger pipes should not exceed 1.6 MPa. The test pressure for vacuum pipes is 0.2 MPa. During the pneumatic test of sanitary grade stainless steel pipes, the internal stress of the material must not exceed 80% of the material's yield strength at the test temperature.
Sanitary-grade stainless steel pipe chemical composition should comply with GB/T14976-2012 specifications; however, the carbon content of the steel strip can be limited according to customer requirements: the carbon content of the sanitary-grade stainless steel pipe is 0.09~0.12%, and that of the 20 steel is 0.19~0.22%. The mechanical properties of the steel strip should meet the requirements of GOST6523-70. The test temperature of the stainless steel sanitary pipe should not approach the brittle transformation temperature of the material. Brittle materials that have not passed individual hydrostatic tests are strictly prohibited from participating in pneumatic tests.
Prior to testing, grade A stainless steel pipes should undergo a preliminary test with air or other non-toxic, non-flammable gases. The test pressure for the preliminary test can be selected between 0.1 to 0.5 MPa, with 0.2 MPa generally recommended. During the air pressure test of grade A stainless steel pipes, the pressure should be gradually and slowly increased. When the pressure reaches 50% of the test pressure, it should be held steady for 3 minutes. If no abnormalities or leaks are detected, continue to increase the pressure by 10% of the test pressure in steps, holding each level steady for 3 minutes until the pressure is held steady at the test pressure for 10 minutes. Then, reduce the pressure to the design pressure, allowing sufficient time for inspection. The pipe is deemed合格 if no leaks are detected during the foam agent inspection.
