Common issue: Cracks in lightweight partition walls. Many who have renovated might have encountered this situation. When this happens, it's necessary to work with the renovation company to identify the cause and correct it. What should you do if your lightweight partition wall cracks? Below, Xinjiang manufacturer of lightweight partition boards will provide an analysis of the causes and solutions to this issue, hoping it proves helpful to you after reading.
Analysis of the Causes of Cracking in Lightweight Partition Walls
1. The quality of lightweight partition board: The quality of lightweight partition board mainly depends on the manufacturer's control over raw materials (such as cementitious materials, reinforcing materials, and filling materials); or the production process does not meet national standards. Additionally, due to external climatic factors, like dry and water loss during autumn and summer seasons, the boards are prone to drying and cracking.
2. Reasons for the lightweight partition construction technique: As for the cracks caused by construction, there are too many factors involved, such as worker skills or construction specifications.
Lightweight partition board cracks: (1) For small cracks, simply paste cotton duck or kraft paper or soybean cloth on the partition board once. (2) If the crack at the board's breakage and the interface with the adjacent two boards exceeds 30CM, use a putty knife (or a flathead screwdriver) to draw a V-shape (the top opening about 5MM wide, depth about 5MM-10MM), then apply sand and lime. (3) If the interface between the two adjacent boards is less than 30CM, replace with a new partition board.
Cracks in lightweight partition wall construction: If it's a load-bearing or solid wall, the cause of cracking might be due to too thick joint compound during construction, or applying it before it's dry. Alternatively, it could be the result of renovating old houses to level walls. For instance, if the old wall has cracks, it's necessary to first remove the original base joint compound and impurities thoroughly, then re-treat the base before proceeding with the construction.
