Beijing South Railway Station, under the jurisdiction of Beijing Railway Bureau, is now a directly administered class A station. As for passenger traffic, it is the third largest railway station in Beijing, following Beijing West and Beijing Stations. In terms of size, it is the largest and handles the most train services in Beijing. Located at Yongwai Railway Station Road, Chongwen District, Beijing, the current address is 12 Yongwai Avenue, Fengtai District, Beijing. Originally named Yongdingmen Railway Station, before 2006, Beijing South mainly provided slow trains and medium to short-distance transportation services. The station ceased operations on May 10, 2006, for expansion and renovation. On New Year's Eve on January 28, 2007, the main station building project began. Beijing South officially opened and began operations on August 1, 2008, becoming a passenger station for the Beijing-Tianjin Intercity Railway, Beijing-Shanghai High-Speed Railway, and Hefei High-Speed Railway. Beijing South primarily handles the transportation of EMUs (Electric Multiple Units) to and from East China, as well as the origin and destination of the Beijing-Tianjin Intercity Trains.
