Poor operating habits when handling diesel generators are the primary reasons affecting the lifespan and failure rate of these generators. Here, the generator manufacturer will list some for the reference of diesel generator users, hoping to provide assistance.
Common poor operating habits of diesel generators often include:
Diesel generators operating under insufficient oil conditions
Lack of oil supply can lead to insufficient lubrication on the surfaces of all friction parts, resulting in abnormal wear or burning. Therefore, it is crucial to ensure an adequate oil supply before and during the operation of diesel generators to prevent issues like engine seizure or liner burning due to oil deficiency.
Section II: Immediate shutdown after load trip or sudden load removal
After the diesel generator is turned off, the water circulation in the cooling system stops, causing a sharp decrease in heat dissipation capability. The heated components lose cooling, which can easily lead to overheating of parts like cylinder heads, cylinder liners, and cylinder blocks, resulting in cracks or causing pistons to overexpand and become stuck in the cylinder liners. Additionally, without idling cooling during shutdown, the lubrication on the friction surfaces is insufficient, leading to increased wear when the diesel generator restarts due to poor lubrication. Therefore, before turning off the diesel generator, it should be unloaded and the speed should be gradually reduced, with the generator running at no load for a few minutes.
Section III: Operation under Load Without Warm-Up After Cold Start
When a diesel generator starts cold, due to the high viscosity and poor fluidity of the engine oil, it can lead to insufficient oil supply by the oil pump. The lack of oil on the machine's friction surfaces can result in poor lubrication, causing rapid wear on the friction surfaces and potentially leading to issues such as pulling the cylinder or burning the bearing. Therefore, after the diesel generator is cooled down, it should idle to warm up, and only then should it be operated under load once the oil temperature reaches above 40℃.
Four: After the diesel generator is cold-started, a sudden throttle pull is performed.
If the throttle is floored, the diesel generator's RPM will急剧 climb, easily causing severe wear on some friction surfaces on the aircraft due to dry friction. Additionally, when the throttle is floored, the piston, connecting rod, and crankshaft experience significant force variations, leading to剧烈 collisions and potential damage to components.
Section 5: Operation under conditions of insufficient cooling water volume or excessively high temperatures of cooling water and engine oil.
If the cooling water level in a diesel generator is insufficient, it will reduce its cooling efficiency. The generator may overheat due to inadequate cooling. Additionally, if the cooling water and oil temperatures are too high, it can easily lead to overheating in the diesel engine. At this point, the cylinder head, cylinder sleeve, piston assembly, and valves of the diesel generator experience significant heat load, and their mechanical properties such as strength and toughness急剧 decline, increasing part deformation, reducing the clearance between parts, accelerating wear, and potentially causing cracks or parts to stick. Overheating of the diesel generator can also worsen the combustion process, causing the fuel injector to malfunction, poor atomization, and increased carbon buildup.
