The cylindrical sediment sampler is a device that extracts sediment from the ground or bottom of water bodies in a cylindrical shape. Various drilling machinery or soil drills are types of cylindrical sediment samplers. The purpose of collecting cylindrical samples is to study the chemical composition of different layers of sediment and the vertical distribution of benthic organisms within the mud. Therefore, the cylindrical sediment sampler must not disrupt the natural stratification of the sediment when collecting samples.
The use of the column sediment sampler is quite simple; it can be used to collect samples from both shallow and deep water. When the sampler enters the water, the plastic valve at the top of the sampling tube opens, allowing water to flow freely through the sampler tube. The sampler can be inserted into the sampling bottom by hand push or gravity. Once the sampler collects the required sample, it is removed from the sediment, and during the ascent, the valve at the top of the sampler closes due to the water pressure. As the sampler moves upwards, a vacuum is created, keeping the sample inside the tube without loss. After the sampler is removed from the water, the sample is extracted through a piston for analysis.
Our PSC-600G Column Sediment Collector offers undisturbed sampling, preserving the natural stratification of sediments. Modular components allow for easy disassembly, facilitating maintenance and transportation. It automatically shuts off after sampling, with excellent leak-proof performance. Capable of collecting surface sediments from marine, lake, river, and wetland waters.
