Wastewater pump stations are divided into two types:
A type of facility is a pumping station situated within the sewage pipeline system, designed to lift urban wastewater. Its purpose is to elevate the wastewater level, as sewage pipelines, unlike water supply pipelines (potable water), are not pressurized and rely on the wastewater's own gravity for flow. Since the intercepting network of the city collects a wide area of wastewater and is far from the wastewater treatment plant, it is not feasible to bury the pipelines deeply. Therefore, a pumping station is required to elevate the wastewater level.
The pump station, located within the wastewater treatment plant, is designed to elevate wastewater to provide flow power for subsequent processes. Generally, the elevation of wastewater lift is calculated by subtracting the head loss from the elevation of the effluent after wastewater treatment.
