Busbars are typically designed for indoor use, so humidity in the air does not affect the operation of the busbar. However, when busbars need to be installed in outdoor environments with high humidity or due to engineering requirements, their waterproofing must be considered.

During actual use, if protective measures are inadequate, direct water exposure, or long-term erosion by water and gas environments, it inevitably leads to reduced insulation, which over time can cause short circuits, damage busbars, and result in major safety issues with the entire electrical circuit. In such cases, necessary protective measures must be taken during the installation process.

Firstly, it is advisable to select busbar trunking products with a higher IP protection level. Currently, the IP protection of busbar trunking products can reach IP68 and above, which is generally sufficient to meet common water and gas conditions. A solution involves adding a waterproof eave over the outdoor busway sections and installing rain shields to prevent water from entering. The waterproof covering material should be corrosion-resistant, and waterproofing measures should be taken at the joints.

An alternative approach is to utilize the new waterproof busway (also known as cast busway) and directly cast and seal the busbars with high-performance insulating resin. The protection rating reaches IP68. The new non-metallic busway features four protective functions including waterproofing, fire resistance, corrosion resistance, and explosion-proof, making it suitable for various harsh and high-purity environments.
