Where to Rent Generators: Structure and Function of Diesel Generator Set Thermostats
The Thermostat's Function: Automatically adjusts the amount of water flowing through the radiator based on the diesel engine's load and water temperature, ensuring the engine operates at the optimal temperature (80±3)℃.
The Thermostat Operation Principle: When the internal engine water temperature of the diesel engine falls below 70°C, the outlet valve of the thermostat closes, and all the cooling water flows back to the water pump's inlet through the bypass valve of the thermostat, then recirculates, known as the small circulation. As the internal engine water temperature rises between 70-80°C, the bypass valve of the thermostat gradually closes, and the outlet valve to the radiator gradually opens. At this point, part of the cooling water within the engine continues the small circulation, while the other part flows back to the radiator through the radiator return pipe. When the internal engine water temperature exceeds 80°C, the bypass valve of the thermostat is fully closed, and the outlet valve is fully opened. In this case, all the cooling water within the engine flows through the radiator for the large circulation.
The Thermostat Structure: The thermostat is typically mounted at the interface of the cylinder head outlet pipe. It is a cylindrical casing with folded patterns, made of brass, which is assembled within a stamped shell. The interior of the cylinder contains a volatile liquid such as ether or alcohol. One end of the corrugated cylinder features two valves of unequal sizes.
The Structure and Function of Radiators: Water radiators are primarily composed of copper tube cores, water trays, air guides, and support components. Their function is to lower the temperature of the cooling water, ensuring the diesel engine operates at normal temperatures. The main issue with water radiators is leakage. When leakage occurs, the cooling water inside the radiator should be drained, and then the repair can be made using a slightly more powerful soldering iron and solder. If there is extensive leakage and it's difficult to inspect, block all the outlets, immerse the radiator in a pool, and introduce compressed air at a certain pressure through the inlet. If bubbles appear at specific points in the pool, it indicates a leak in those areas. After locating the leaks, they should be repaired with solder. Other iron components can be repaired using welding.
The fan's structure and function: The fan is mounted on the head of the water pump pulley and rotates with it to generate strong wind, which forcibly cools the cooling water inside the water radiator. For diesel engines with air-cooled oil, the strong wind created by the fan also cools the engine oil inside the oil cooler, ensuring the diesel engine operates at optimal water and oil temperatures.
