Hot-Dip Galvanized Cable Trays: A full system of rigid structures designed to support cables with tight connections, composed of straight sections in channel, tray, or ladder configurations, bends, tees, quadrants, and components such as brackets (arm supports) and hangers, all made from cold-rolled steel sheets with a hot-dip galvanized surface finish.

Process Introduction

Among various methods of coating to protect the steel substrate, hot-dip galvanizing is particularly excellent. It involves a process where, after undergoing quite complex physical and chemical reactions when zinc is in a liquid state, not only does it apply a thick layer of pure zinc to the steel but also forms a zinc-iron alloy layer. This method not only possesses the corrosion-resistant characteristics of electroplated zinc but also boasts an unparalleled strong corrosion resistance due to the zinc-iron alloy layer. Therefore, it is particularly suitable for various environments with strong corrosive factors such as strong acid, alkali mist, and more.

Hot-dip galvanized cable trays involve immersing the rust-removed steel components in a molten zinc liquid at approximately 600°C, causing a zinc coating to adhere to the surface of the steel. The zinc layer must be at least 65μm thick for thin plates of 5mm or less and at least 86μm thick for thicker plates, thereby providing corrosion protection. As an effective method of metal corrosion prevention, the hot-dip galvanizing process is widely used on metal structural facilities across various industries, with a corrosion resistance lifespan of 10 years or more.

Principle

The hot-dip galvanized layer is formed in three steps when zinc is melted at high temperatures:

The iron-based surface is dissolved by zinc liquid to form a zinc-iron alloy phase layer.

2. Zinc ions further diffuse into the substrate, forming a zinc-iron solid solution layer within the alloy layer.

3. The alloy layer is enveloped with a zinc coating.

Performance Features

(1) A thick, dense layer of pure zinc covers the steel surface, preventing contact between the steel substrate and any corrosive solutions, thereby protecting the steel from corrosion. In normal atmospheric conditions, a thin, dense layer of zinc oxide forms on the zinc surface, which is hardly soluble in water, thus offering some protection to the steel substrate. If zinc oxide combines with other atmospheric components to form insoluble zinc salts, the corrosion prevention becomes even more ideal.

(2) Features a dense iron-zinc alloy coating, exhibiting unique corrosion resistance in marine salt fog and industrial atmospheres.

(3) Due to its strong bonding, zinc-iron intermetallics exhibit excellent wear resistance.

(4) Due to zinc's excellent ductility, the alloy layer adheres firmly to the steel substrate, allowing for various forming processes like cold stamping, rolling, wire drawing, and bending on hot-dip coated parts without damaging the coating.

(5) After hot-dip galvanizing of steel structural components, it is equivalent to a single annealing process, which effectively improves the mechanical properties of the steel matrix, eliminates the stress during the forming and welding of steel parts, and is conducive to the turning processing of steel structural components.

(6) The surface of the hot-dipped galvanized parts is bright and attractive.

(7) The pure zinc layer is a pliable zinc coating in hot-dip galvanizing, with properties closely resembling pure zinc. It is malleable, thus providing high flexibility.

Application Scope

The applications of hot-dip galvanized products have expanded accordingly with the development of industry and agriculture.
