Gabion mesh is an ecological grid layout. Originating from over 2,000 years of bamboo baskets in China, this new style of ecological grid layout, featuring innovative technology, skills, and materials, has successfully been applied in hydraulic engineering, road, railway engineering, and embankment maintenance projects. It effectively integrates engineering layout with ecological environment. Compared to traditional rigid layouts, it possesses its own advantages, and has thus become a layout type for comprehensive environmental maintenance, including riverbed maintenance, landslide management, prevention of mud and stone flows, and rockfall avoidance. The English term for gabion mesh is "gabion."
The gabion mesh is made from high corrosion-resistant, high-tensile, and ductile low-carbon steel wire, possibly coated with PVC, woven by machinery. According to ASTM A 975 and EN10223 standards, the diameter of the low-carbon steel wire used varies according to engineering design requirements, usually between 2.0-4.0mm. The tensile strength of the wire is not less than 38kg/m2, and the metal coating weight is typically above 245g/m2. The diameter of the edge line of the gabion mesh panels is usually larger than the wire diameter. The length of the double twisted section must not be less than 50mm to ensure that the metal and PVC coatings on the twisted section wires are not damaged.
Product Usage Analysis:
This layout is suitable for slope support, foundation pit support, rock surface mesh shotcrete on mountains, slope vegetation (aesthetic improvement), and railway and expressway barrier nets. It can also be made into boxes and pads, used for erosion control and maintenance of rivers, dikes, and sea dikes, as well as for weir netting in reservoirs and rivers.
● Controlling and guiding rivers and floods *The severe disaster of rivers is the erosion of the riverbank, causing numerous floods that result in significant losses of life, property, and soil erosion. Therefore, the use of the EcoGrid layout is one of the solutions for addressing these issues, as it provides **permanent maintenance for riverbeds and riverbanks.**
● Ecological River Treatment with Gabion Mesh
The approach involves the stability of slopes and riverbeds. Therefore, the selection of an ecological netting layout, a primary method used in the transformation of many natural rivers and excavation of artificial pathways over the past century, is employed. It offers effective **protection** for riverbanks or riverbeds, and it also has the function of controlling water flow and preventing water loss, especially in environmental protection and maintaining water quality, where it demonstrates **remarkable** effects.
Riprap Net for Slope and Bank Protection
The layout of ecological mesh has been a successful model in riverbank protection and slope foot defense, fully utilizing the strengths of the ecological mesh to achieve ambitions that other methods cannot.
