Gabion mesh is an ecological grid layout. Originating from over 2,000 years of bamboo baskets in China, this new-style ecological grid layout, with its innovative technology, skills, and materials, has successfully been applied in hydraulic engineering, road, railway engineering, and embankment maintenance projects. It effectively integrates engineering layout with ecological environment. Compared to some traditional rigid layouts, it has its own advantages, and has thus become a layout type for comprehensive environmental maintenance, including riverbed maintenance, landslide management, prevention of mud and stone flows, and rockfall avoidance. The English term for gabion mesh is "gabion."
The gabion mesh is made from high-corrosion resistant, high-tensile, and ductile low-carbon steel wire, possibly coated with PVC, and woven by machinery. The diameter of the low-carbon steel wire used complies with ASTM A 975 and EN10223 standards and varies according to engineering design requirements, typically ranging from 2.0 to 4.0 mm. The tensile strength of the wire must be no less than 38 kg/m², and the metal coating weight is usually above 245 g/m². The diameter of the edge line of the gabion mesh sheets is usually larger than the wire diameter. The length of the double twisted section must not be less than 50 mm to ensure that the metal and PVC coatings on the twisted wire sections are not damaged.
Product Usage Analysis:
This layout is suitable for slope support, foundation pit support, rock face mesh shotcrete on mountains, slope vegetation (aesthetic), and railway and highway barrier nets. It can also be made into boxes and mats, used for erosion control and maintenance of rivers, embankments, and sea dikes, as well as for containment boxes in reservoirs and rivers.
●Controlling and Guiding Rivers and Floods *The severe disasters caused by rivers include the erosion of riverbanks, leading to numerous floods, resulting in significant losses of life, property, and soil erosion. Therefore, in addressing these issues, the use of the ecological mesh layout has become one of the solutions, as it enables the sustained maintenance of riverbeds and riverbanks.
Riprap Mesh Eco-River Management
The approach to construction involves the stability of slopes and riverbeds. Therefore, the use of ecological mesh layouts, which have been the primary method for many natural river transformations and artificial channel excavations over the past century, is chosen. It provides effective **protection** for riverbanks or riverbeds, and it also has the function of controlling water flow and preventing water loss, especially in environmental protection and maintaining water quality, where it has **remarkable** effects.
● Gabion mesh slope protection & revetment
The ecological mesh layout is a successful model for riverbank protection and slope foot protection, fully utilizing the advantages of the ecological mesh and achieving ambitions that other methods cannot accomplish.
