High concentrations of nitrogen, argon, or carbon dioxide can cause asphyxiation injuries. Additionally, high oxygen concentrations can lead to oxygen-rich injuries. Oxygen is a strong oxidizing agent with extremely high oxidizing power. Liquid oxygen, when in close proximity to combustible materials, can easily ignite upon contact with an open flame; it can also produce explosions due to shock or impact when in contact with combustible materials; mixing with them poses a latent explosion risk. Liquid oxygen can adhere to clothing and fabrics, causing flash fires upon ignition, which can cause personal injury.
