Currently, with the diminishing supply of fossil fuels like coal and oil, there's an increasing reliance and demand for renewable energy in human civilization. This is leading to greater attention being paid to the photothermal industry, as global photothermal power generation is entering a period of rapid development.
Since the 1990s, major solar power countries globally have begun establishing demonstration plants and developing solar thermal technology. By the end of 2009, nearly 1.3GW of projects were under construction, with 12.6GW of projects scheduled to be announced for construction before 2014, spanning regions rich in solar resources such as Asia, Europe, and North Africa. It is anticipated that by 2015, the total scale of global solar thermal power projects will exceed 17GW.
Solar thermal power generation has become a hot spot for the development of renewable energy on an international scale. As early as the 1980s, more than 20 solar thermal power stations of various forms with installed capacities over 500 kilowatts had been built abroad. Among them, the Dish Solar Thermal Power Generation No.1 and No.2 in California, USA, have reached 850 megawatts and 750 megawatts respectively, and solar thermal power generation has already begun commercial operations.
China started late, with the country's first 70-kilowatt solar tower thermal power generation system passing the acceptance test in Nanjing on June 1, 2007. On July 1, 2010, the first tower solar thermal power station in Asia began construction in Yanqing, Beijing.
