Many people often ask if the color of zinc steel balcony railings is powder coated or painted? Is the exterior painted? Some people inquire what powder coating is? Is it the same as painting? As an experienced railing manufacturer with years of production and wholesale, we can inform you that all the hot-dip galvanized powder coated railings produced by Yuanheng Railing Factory are powder coated, which is technically known as electrostatic spraying, and we colloquially refer to it as powder coating. Moreover, powder coating is entirely different from painting! Let's take a look at it with the Yuanheng Railing editor below!
The raw material for powder coating is a solid powder that melts at high temperatures on the surfaces of various guardrails, fences, railings, and enclosures, offering a good adhesive protective layer. Paint is a liquid that can be brushed onto the surface of objects. Of course, under ideal conditions, it can also be sprayed onto the surface. However, when spraying paint, if not careful, it can run like water, resulting in watermarks or uneven, bumpy textures. In the case of skilled craftsmanship, the distinction between powder coating and paint can be so subtle that it's hard for the untrained eye to tell the difference.
As a manufacturer of guardrails, to be specific——true powder coating involves a surface treatment method where plastic powder is sprayed onto parts, commonly known as electrostatic spraying. The paint film typically presents a matte or glossy finish, serving an aesthetic purpose. The use of electrostatic spraying on hot-dipped galvanized steel guardrails yields better results, primarily providing corrosion resistance and weather resistance. Using an electrostatic powder spraying system (powder coating machine), the powder coating is sprayed onto the workpiece surface. Under the effect of static electricity, the powder evenly adheres to the surface, forming a powder-like coating; this powder coating is then baked at high temperatures to flatten and cure, resulting in coatings with varying effects (depending on the type of powder coating); the spraying effect is superior to that of painting in terms of mechanical strength, adhesion, corrosion resistance, and aging resistance.
When compared to traditional painting methods, electrostatic powder coating boasts significant advantages: it requires no thinners, is environmentally friendly with no harm to humans, features excellent coating appearance and strong adhesion and mechanical strength; it has a short curing time for the spray application; and it exhibits superior corrosion and wear resistance. Some application scenarios have explicitly stated the necessity of using electrostatic powder coating. During the electrostatic powder coating process, the flow issues commonly seen in painting techniques do not occur. Additionally, it offers a wide variety of colors and styles that can blend with various environments, allowing for regional customization to showcase individuality.
