Well-known, electroplated silver resin, when combined with electroplated aluminum silver powder or仿electroplated aluminum silver powder, along with pearl mica and suitable additives, forms electroplated silver paint. Applied to the surface of plastic or metal substrates, it creates a delicate, ultra-thin, and extremely bright white finish, achieving a metallic luster akin to electroplating or imitation electroplating. It can replace traditional electroplating and chemical plating processes, offering advantages such as environmental friendliness, reduced pollution, ease of operation, convenience in application, high yield rate, and low production costs. As a result, it is widely used in electronic product casings, home appliance casings, metal and plastic lighting components, automotive interiors, toys, metal products, and other applications, replacing surface coatings like oxidation, providing both protection and decorative brightness. Electroplated silver resin has these advantages, but also some drawbacks that are difficult to overcome, such as the issue of silver powder shedding, which causes engineers a headache. In response to the shedding problem, smart coating engineers have come up with numerous solutions, including adding LTW anti-shedding additives, APW anti-shedding additives, and other similar anti-shedding additives to prevent silver powder shedding during the 100-point test. However, during use, these additives still present challenges for engineers. Generally, the high acid value (22-32) of the anti-shedding additives can lead to oxidation when in contact with silver powder in silver oil, causing the silver powder to darken and become dull over time, and to exhibit coarsening, reducing the finesse and metallic texture of the silver powder. Consequently, clever engineers have devised a new approach by adding the anti-shedding additives to the degreaser water, at normal ratios, effectively adding the additives only when in use to avoid the issue of silver powder darkening when stored for extended periods. However, using specialized degreaser water for specialized oils is inconvenient for customers to purchase and also complicates the spray painting operation for workers. Inaccurate ratio mixing can lead to shedding, and if the oil prepared that day is not used up, it will darken, rendering it unusable or even causing waste and scrapping.

The silver undercoat made from electroplated silver resin boasts a strong metallic feel, but it generally lacks high luster. Most electroplated silver resin coatings have a hardness of around 1-2H after forming, and their scratch resistance is not ideal either. Consequently, some customers request an additional layer of varnish on the undercoat to enhance luster, scratch resistance, and weather resistance. One method is to apply UV varnish, while another is to use PU varnish to improve surface hardness and luster. This achieves a brighter luster and enhanced scratch resistance and water resistance, among other comprehensive properties. However, many electroplated silver resins have poor interlayer adhesion with varnish layers, which can lead to issues such as paint peeling off when pulled, even delamination or cracking. In some cases, the base coat may lose its silver powder, or the surface may become dark and black due to chalking. These problems present a challenge for many engineers.

Why is silver powder on electroplated silver resins prone to falling off? The topcoat can attack the silver base, resulting in poor scratch resistance and interlayer adhesion.
