Shaoxing Kedongqiao: Wooden Bridge Demolished Due to Rot, to Be Reconstructed

The Ke Dong Bridge, located on the ancient canal in Shaoxing, Zhejiang, to the east of Keqiao Old Street, was originally named for its wooden structure pavilions and corridors. As we step into 2023, the city of Shaoxing has initiated protective restoration of the Keqiao Ancient Town. The Ke Dong Bridge, suffering from decayed and deformed wooden structures, damaged and falling tiles, posed safety risks and was scheduled for demolition and reconstruction to rejuvenate its vitality. Our company is honored to undertake this comprehensive project, which includes the reconstruction of an aluminum substitute for the wooden pavilions and corridors, traditional Chinese metal windows and doors, antique metal roof tiles, and the installation of ridge animals. Aluminum substitute for wood metal components are characterized by their light weight, high strength, corrosion resistance, oxidation resistance, and strong self-cleaning ability, making them a common material for ancient building renovation and reconstruction projects. The reconstructed Ke Dong Bridge, with aluminum substitutes for wood, reappears in the aesthetics of Chinese architecture. The bridge sides feature aluminum substitute for wood pedestrian pavilions, with an upper floor as a viewing platform. Climbing the Ke Dong Bridge, visitors can gaze far into the ancient town scenery through Chinese flower patterned windows, capturing the poetic and picturesque landscape.
