How to Address Excess Ammonia Nitrogen in Biochemical Wastewater During Winter

In industrial wastewater treatment equipment, biochemical methods are employed. During winter, low temperatures cause the water temperature to drop, which affects the biochemical treatment process. The growth rate and activity of the biochemical pool bacteria slow down, and the denitrification power decreases, leading to insufficient ammonia nitrogen reduction. The following points offer effective methods for treating ammonia nitrogen during winter:

1. Advance sludge loading ahead of schedule.

2. Inlet water heating: If there is a homogeneous regulating pond, the water can be heated within the pond, which causes less disturbance. If water is directly fed in, it can be heated electrically or through steam heat exchange or mixing to advance the water temperature, requiring precise temperature control to manage the fluctuation of the incoming water temperature.

3. Aeration heating: actually, the temperature rises during the air compression and blowing process. If the aeration tube can withstand it, consider heating the compressed air to increase the temperature in the biochemical pool.
