Sodium CarbonateSodium carbonate, commonly known as soda ash, soda lime, or alkali powder, is a white powder and fine-grained crystalline substance. Its aqueous solution is alkaline, and it has strong hygroscopic properties, easily absorbing moisture in humid air and becoming deliquescent. Sodium carbonate can be categorized into industrial-grade and food-grade, and further divided into light and heavy grades based on bulk density. There are also byproduct alkali, floor alkali, and common alkali, among others.

Usage

Industrial-grade:

Glass production is the main industrial consumer of soda ash, widely used in float glass, picture tube glass shells, optical glass, etc. It can also act as a clarifying agent to remove bubbles from the glass melt.

②High-purity soda ash can reduce the scattering of alkali dust, lower raw material consumption, save costs, and also mitigate the erosion of alkali powder on refractory materials, extending the lifespan of the kiln.

③Sodium carbonate solutions are alkaline due to hydrolysis, can react with grease to form soap, and are used in the production of detergents.

④ Used in leather processing for defatting raw hides and neutralizing chrome-tanned leather to increase the viscosity of the chrome tanning solution.

Soda ash is used in papermaking as a buffer to leach lignin, allowing cellulose to disperse into pulp.

Food-grade:

Food-grade soda ash can be used as a buffer, neutralizer, and dough conditioner for pastries and bread products.
