Since the evaporation of moisture primarily occurs on the surface of the material being dried, the size of the drying area of the material plays a crucial role in the drying process. The drying efficiency is proportional to the size of the drying area. The thicker the material being dried is stacked, the smaller the drying area becomes, resulting in slower drying; conversely, it dries faster.

2. Drying Speed

Drying should be controlled at a certain speed. During the drying process, surface moisture evaporates and is removed quickly, followed by the internal moisture diffusing to the surface for further evaporation. (Steam-free wooden boxes) If the drying speed is too fast and the temperature too high, the surface moisture of the material will evaporate too quickly, with the internal moisture not having enough time to diffuse to the surface. This causes the surface particles to stick together or even melt and form a film, thereby preventing the internal moisture from diffusing and evaporating, leading to incomplete drying and a false appearance of dryness with moisture inside. This can result in material deterioration over time.

3. Drying Methods

During the drying process, the material being dried can be either static or dynamic. Material dried in an oven or drying room is static, with a small drying area, thus resulting in lower drying efficiency. If the material is in a tumbling or suspended state, like in fluidized bed drying, where particles are separated during drying, the drying area is increased, thereby enhancing the drying efficiency.

4. Temperature

As temperatures rise, evaporation speeds up, increasing the evaporation volume, which is conducive to the drying process. However, it is essential to select the appropriate drying temperature based on the nature of the drying material to prevent the destruction of certain components.
