    Factors Affecting the Performance of Insulating Shells

    The purpose of using thermal insulation shells in many industries is to conserve energy and reduce energy consumption. The lifespan of thermal insulation shells is greatly related to the following factors.

    1. Thermal stress

    Temperature variations cause thermal expansion and contraction, leading to volume changes in non-structural components, thus rendering them in an unstable state. Therefore, thermal stress is one of the primary destructive forces affecting the exterior thermal insulation shell. Compared to multi-story or single-story buildings, high-rise buildings are more exposed to direct sunlight and experience greater thermal stress. Hence, when selecting thermal insulation shell products, the principle of flexible gradient should be followed, with the outer shell's deformation capability exceeding that of the inner shell.

    2. Wind pressure

    Positive wind pressure generates thrust, while negative wind pressure produces suction, which can affect the thermal insulation of high-rise buildings. Therefore, it is required that the thermal insulation shell possesses adequate wind pressure resistance. Moreover, in terms of wind pressure resistance, the thermal insulation layer must be cavity-free, preventing any air gaps.

    3. Seismic force

    Earthquakes can cause high-rise building structures and insulation layers to experience compression, shearing, or distortion. The stiffer the insulation layer, the greater the seismic force it can withstand, potentially leading to more severe damage.

    4. Water or Steam

    To prevent water or steam from damaging high-rise buildings, it is recommended to use insulating shells with excellent hydrophobic properties and good steam permeability, to avoid phenomena such as condensation on walls or increased moisture content within the insulation during the migration process.
