Stainless Steel Sand and Water Separator

Overview

The Spiral Sand Water Separator is suitable for sedimentation basins in wastewater treatment plants. It is an integrated unit for separating and lifting organic sand from wastewater, capable of separating particles with a size of ≥0.2mm, offering high separation efficiency. The equipment utilizes a shaftless spiral and water-free bearings, featuring lightweight, compact structure, reliable operation, and easy installation. It is an ideal sand-water separation device.


Helical Main Mechanism and Working Principle

The Spiral Sand Water Separator is composed of components such as the driving unit, spiral, water tank, U-shaped channel, and strips. The sand-water separator consists of a sand-water separation chamber and a spiral sand conveying channel. The water tank has a large separation flow rate, and the spiral sand conveying capacity ensures a residence time of >2 minutes within the separator, with ample excess capacity.

1.1 Main Structure:

⑴ The drive unit is equipped with an shaft-mounted reducer and directly connected to a spiral shaft. A support bearing is installed at the top of the sand conveying channel. The spiral shaft bearing features reliable sealing and good lubrication conditions, enabling it to prevent water and dust, and is easy to lubricate and maintain. The drive unit of the spiral body uses a brand-name gear reducer motor with a service factor of no less than 1.6. The gears are made of alloy steel, carburized, with a surface hardness of not less than HRC58-62. The motor is suitable for outdoor use, with a protection rating of IP65, a voltage rating of three-phase, 380V, 50Hz, and F-grade insulation. The rated power of the motor should be more than 10% higher than the actual power consumption.

② The helical shaft has a helical diameter of Φ280mm, utilizing a shaftless helix design to ensure smooth material conveyance without clogging.

③ The helical sand conveying trough has a U-shaped cross-section, with a helical slot diameter of 320mm and an installation angle of approximately 25°. Besides the open feeding port, the rest is sealed with a flat cover, designed for disassembly. The top features an outlet elevated about 1.75m above ground level. The outlet of the helical conveying trough is more than 300mm higher than the top of the separator trough.

Section 4: The spiral sand conveying trough and water tank are an integrated structure with sufficient strength and rigidity, and no leakage. The entire structure is supported and fixed to a concrete foundation with steel sections.

1.2 Working Principle:

The sand-water mixture from the sand trap is introduced into the sand-water separator where separation takes place, with water overflowing into the pool and sand settling at the bottom. A rotating spiral shaft conveys the sand along a 25° spiral groove to the top discharge port. During conveyance, the sand is further separated to ensure that the moisture content of the sand at the discharge port does not exceed 60%.


Key Component Materials

1. The body of the groove (including the sealing cover) is made of stainless steel 304.

2. The helical material is a wear and corrosion-resistant special steel.

3. Fasteners, such as bolts, are made of stainless steel 316.


Helical sand-water separator structure and operation process

(1) The spiral sand-water separator is composed of a shaftless spiral, strips, U-shaped channels, a water tank, guide plates, an overflow weir, and a driving unit.

(2) The sand-water mixture is introduced into the water tank from the top of one end of the separator. The heavier components, such as sand particles, settle at the bottom of the trough. Under the action of the spiral, the sand particles are lifted along the inclined bottom of the trough. After leaving the liquid surface, they continue to move a certain distance. Once the sand particles are sufficiently dehydrated, they are discharged into a sand storage drum through the sand outlet. The water separated from the sand is then drained out through the overflow and sent to the factory's water intake pool.
