Quartz sand filter is a type of pressure filter that uses a pump to increase the pressure of the water to be filtered (about 0.6 MPa) and passes it through a filter layer to achieve the purpose of filtration. According to the inlet method, it can be divided into single flow mechanical filters and double flow mechanical filters. The former has a water flow direction from top to bottom, while the latter receives water from both ends and exits from the middle. According to the filling situation of the filter material, it can be divided into single-layer mechanical filters and double-layer (multi-layer) mechanical filters.
Quartz sand filtration can be used for pretreatment of ion exchange softening and desalination systems, as well as pre filtration of reverse osmosis devices; The particle size specification of the filter material for industrial wastewater filtration and swimming pool water filtration with low water quality requirements depends on the water quality requirements. When used for pre-treatment of softening and desalination, quartz sand is 0.5-1.0mm and anthracite is 1.2-1.6mm.
working principle
The quartz sand filter cylinder is arranged with filter materials of different particle sizes, compacted and arranged from bottom to top according to size. When the water flows through the filter layer from top to bottom, the suspended substances in the water flow into the tiny pores formed by the upper filter material, and are intercepted by the surface of the filter material due to adsorption and mechanical flow resistance. At the same time, these intercepted suspended solids undergo "overlapping" and "bridging" effects, forming a thin film on the surface of the filter layer and continuing the filtration process. This is the so-called membrane filtration effect on the surface of the filter material. This membrane filtration effect not only exists on the surface, but also produces this interception effect when water flows into the middle filter layer. Unlike the membrane filtration effect on the surface, this intermediate interception effect is called permeation filtration.
In addition, due to the close arrangement of filter materials, suspended particles in water have more opportunities and time to collide and come into contact with the surface of the filter material when they flow through the curved channels formed by the filter material particles. As a result, the suspended particles in the water and the particles of the filter material coagulate and adhere to each other, leading to contact coagulation.
The working principle of filtration is to purify water quality through processes such as membrane filtration, permeation filtration, and contact coagulation.
