The application of the epoxy primer layer is a fundamental step in the epoxy flooring painting process. The primer layer sits between the subfloor and the epoxy coating, enhancing the adhesion between the coating and the ground. Many people wonder, how much epoxy primer is the right amount to use?

The primary factor affecting the amount of epoxy floor primer used is the bonding strength of the floor's surface, which in turn impacts overall strength. Generally, the strength of concrete floors for epoxy floor painting should be greater than C25. The optimal amount of ground primer is usually between 0.05 to 0.2 kg/m². If the ground strength is low, the surface is loose, and sanding is prone to occur, the amount of epoxy floor primer will vary based on the actual environment and conditions. Additionally, if the bonding strength of the floor surface is low and insufficient epoxy floor primer is applied to increase the bonding strength, the quality of the epoxy floor will be poor. If heavy loads like forklifts are placed on the floor, the epoxy floor and its base may be compressed and cracked. Therefore, it is crucial to ensure even application of the primer during epoxy floor installation. If the overall ground strength is too low, epoxy mortar coatings can be chosen based on load-bearing and strength requirements, or the ground can be renovated if conditions permit.

The degree of wear on new and old surfaces varies, of course. The extent of damage to old surfaces depends on the length of use and the varying degrees of load-bearing usage. Sometimes, the surface may develop large areas of pits and cracks. Therefore, it is essential to repair the surface before applying the epoxy primer. Repairing cracks and holes, as well as controlling the flatness of the surface, is quite necessary. For a relatively new surface with good strength and flatness, the general dosage is controlled between 0.05~0.2kg/m². For old surfaces, the actual situation should be professionally managed by construction personnel.

Improper surface treatment can lead to the peeling of floor paint films and oil pollution, which is a common issue with bare ground surfaces. Floor coatings have a penetrating function, allowing them to seep into the tiny pores of the bare ground, thereby enhancing the adhesion between the bare ground and the floor coating. If the oil pollution on the bare ground is not thoroughly cleaned, it can block the pores and prevent the floor coating from bonding properly with the surface, causing the paint film to easily peel off.
