Introduction to the Two Types of Joints in Concrete Pipes

According to the different applications of cement pipes, the interface methods also vary. Next, we will briefly introduce the two major interfaces of Tangshan cement pipes.
The flat socket interface is one of the earliest interface forms in our country, known for its high production efficiency, low manufacturing difficulty, and relatively low production costs. The interface sealing with steel wire mesh concrete tape is characterized by poor rigid connection and sealing effectiveness, as well as poor seismic performance. Ground displacement can cause the interface to separate, leading to the leakage of wastewater and subsequent damage to the road surface. Wastewater can contaminate the soil and groundwater on both sides of the pipeline. The pipeline foundation requires a concrete base. Construction efficiency is low, but costs are high.
Flexible spigot joint form, featuring a sliding rubber ring for water-tight sealing, is a flexible connection with a deeper insertion of 135mm compared to the spigot joint, and a relative turning angle of 1.5°. The joint boasts excellent seismic resistance, capable of withstanding uneven ground settlement. The pipe base can be chosen from concrete or sandstone foundations. The installation of this type of pipe joint is faster and easier to operate than that of the spigot joint, which requires digging a joint pit. Whether a concrete or sandstone foundation is chosen, flexible spigot pipes are easier to install, yield better results, and are faster. The construction cost of flexible spigot pipes is lower than that of spigot joints, as the trench for the spigot joint pipe needs to be wider than that for the flexible spigot pipe, significantly increasing the volume of excavation and backfilling, particularly for large-diameter pipes.
