Introduction to MBR Membrane Bio-Reactor
MBR, also known as a membrane bioreactor, is a novel water treatment technology that combines the activated sludge process with membrane separation techniques.
MBR membranes are currently categorized into four main types:Hollow fiber membranes, flat membranes, ceramic membranes, tubular membranes。
Hollow Fiber MembraneAlso known as "shading film," when combined with flat film, it is referred to as "organic film," primarily made of PVDF, which is the main material for all films on the market today. However, a new material, PTFE, has emerged, rumored to be superior to PVDF. It is said to provide a more even pore distribution during the film stretching process and is hailed as the "King of Plastics."
Ceramic MembraneAlso a relatively new addition in recent years, ceramic membranes, along with organic flat membranes, are known as "flat membranes." They boast excellent chemical stability, with resistance to acids, alkalis, organic solvents, and high temperatures; they also have narrow pore size distribution and high separation efficiency. The ceramic membranes I've encountered are primarily made of alumina, titanium oxide, and it seems there's also silicon oxide.
Organic Tubular MembraneAs a form of membrane element, it is suitable for membrane separation technologies such as ultrafiltration, microfiltration, and even nanofiltration. Its advantages include wide flow channels, turbulent flow of feed in the tube, and low precision requirements for feed pretreatment. The tubular membrane is easy to clean, and can be washed with both chemical agents and mechanical physical scrubbing methods. The pressure loss of the tubular membrane module is low, allowing for long flow channels (up to 48 meters in series), and high filtration efficiency.
Flat FilmA sheet, typically made of ABS with a drainage channel, is coated with fabric and PVDF film on both sides, then formed into a membrane after seamless welding. There are also two types of membranes known as flat membranes: soft film and flexible film. Flat Membrane Assembly: Commonly, an assembly is made of a frame焊接 using 304 stainless steel, into which individual membranes are inserted and secured. Tubes for aeration and drainage pipes are then attached, making it a membrane assembly. Currently, assemblies of 10 to 250 sheets can be formed as integers, regardless of the size of a single membrane. Theoretically, if a membrane is damaged and the water production decreases, it can be individually inspected and replaced, thereby saving replacement costs.
