Silicon iron is an indispensable deoxidizing agent in the steelmaking industry. In steelmaking, silicon iron is used for both sedimentation and diffusion deoxidation. It also serves as an alloying agent in steel production. Adding a certain amount of silicon to steel significantly enhances its strength, hardness, and elasticity, thereby improving the quality of the steel.
Silicon iron serves as a reducing agent in the production of low-carbon ferroalloys within the iron alloy industry. Adding silicon iron to cast iron can act as a nodularizing agent for nodular cast iron; it also prevents the formation of carbides, promotes the precipitation and spheroidization of graphite, and improves the properties of cast iron.
