Grape seedlings, during their growth process, may develop excess branches due to the company's lack of restraint. At this point, we need to prune continuously. However, extra care must be taken during pruning. There are several important points to remember. Below, I'll introduce the key points to consider when pruning:
Branches:
1. Pay attention to the smoothness of the concave and the 45-degree angle of the槽口芽 inclined. For sweet cherry seedlings, the orchard should be situated on high ground, not prone to waterlogging, and with low groundwater levels, typically not exceeding 80 centimeters during the rainy season. On plains, it's preferable to have a protective forest on the south or north end of the village; for hilly areas, choose a sunny, shallow valley with a wind-protected orientation. Both types of land can prevent wind damage and ensure ample sunlight and heat for the sweet cherries in spring, promoting early ripening. When establishing the orchard, consider frost risks and light conditions. To reduce frost damage, choose a location with good air circulation or elevated ground, such as gentle sloping terraces. Sweet cherries thrive in sunny conditions, so the terrain should be open and well-lit. Areas with shade and poor sunlight, like the north slopes of hills and mountains, are not suitable for sweet cherry orchards. For large cherry tree seedlings, it's better to select sites with neutral to slightly acidic soil; require a deep, living soil layer of at least 100 centimeters; soil type should be loamy or loam, with organic matter content above 1%; avoid consecutive plantings.
2. Cut from the opposite side of the bud tip, at a slant, creating a bevel and indentation.
3. The lower slope should be flush with the bud base, offering the advantage of a smaller incision surface, easier healing, faster bud formation, and growth. Additionally, when pruning to thin the branches, the cuts should be made level with the branch points and trunk, leaving no stubs.
Figure 2. When cutting tree branches, to prevent the entry of rainwater or pathogens and rot, disinfect with a 20% copper sulfate solution. Cut the branches smooth and apply a protective agent to prevent corrosion and drying.
Section 3: Implementing the operation method of different departments
This is for larger branch and trunk veneers, where saw cuts over 20 cm can be seen. When looking at it from the base, the depth of half the thickness of the branch can be from the top of the saw, leaving a stub.
Next, remove the stubs from the cut ends to prevent students from exerting too much force and splitting a branch.
Four: The time of thin branches
A single operation should not be overly extensive; it must be carried out annually, progressing gradually, ensuring timely and appropriate measures to prevent haste. During thinning, the wound should be smooth with no branches.
Wounds should be sutured in a sideways or downward direction, avoiding creating sky scars. Post-surgery, the wound protector should be applied. Additionally, twist the tips at the half-woody part of the branch.
Research on the pruning methods for large cherry seedlings should be based on the characteristics of different varieties, tree age, tree vigor, planting density, cultivation management methods, and cultivation level. Therefore, we must not prune arbitrarily; there should be a basis for pruning. In this way, the growth of the seedlings can be guaranteed.
