Common Faults of Steam Pressure Reducing Valves and Solutions

Common Faults of Steam Pressure Reducing Valves and Solutions? A technician from Hangzhou HAIWO Fluid Control states: Steam pressure reducing valves should generally be installed horizontally in pipelines. A filter should be installed before the reducing valve to prevent debris in the medium from entering and affecting its performance. The reducing valve should be installed in a location convenient for operation and maintenance, and it must be installed upside down on a horizontal pipeline. Attention should be given to ensure that the flow direction of the ball valve, hydraulic control valve, and the arrow on the valve body are consistent with the direction indicated, and do not install it backwards.

General pressure reducing valves require an inlet and outlet pressure difference of ≥0.2Mpa. These valves come in various sizes from DN15 to DN400, with working pressures before and after the valve at <1MPa and 0.1 to 0.5MPa, respectively. The pressure adjustment range error is ±5% to 10%.

One: The downstream pressure is unstable and varies with the upstream pressure, with the cause being:

    1. The valve core got stuck with a foreign object.

    2. Valve rod and push rod stuck.

    Line for liquid injection clogged.

    Exclusion Method:

    1. Reassemble to remove foreign objects

    2. Realigning

    3. Facilitate.

Valve downstream pressure cannot be reduced, fluctuating consistently above the required value; cause:

    1. The spring stiffness is set too high.

    2. Excessive valve diameter.

    3. Excessive pressure before the valve, with an overly high reduction ratio.

    Exclusion Method:

    1. Replace the spring.

    2. Switch to a smaller bore size.

    3. Valve pressure: If the pressure after the valve exceeds 10:1, a two-stage pressure reduction should be applied.

Thirdly, the downstream pressure cannot increase, remaining consistently below the required value; causes include:

    1. The spring stiffness is set too low.

    2. Valve bore too small.

    3. Low pressure reduction ratio.

    Exclusion Method:

    1. Replace the spring.

    2. Increase the diameter size.

    3. Valve Pressure: If the pressure after the valve is below 1.25, increase the pressure before the valve.

Four: The valve's pre-pressure cannot be increased, it always operates below the required value; cause:

    1. The spring stiffness is set too low.

Valve core got stuck by foreign matter.

    3. Valve rod and push rod stuck.

    4. Valve core and seat damage, excessive leakage.

    5. Excessive valve diameter.

    Exclusion Method:

    1. Spring replacement

    2. Reassembly and Disassembly

    3. Re-adjustment

    4. Resurface or replace;

    5. Switch to a smaller bore size.

Five: The valve pressure drop cannot be reduced, always operating above the required value; the cause is:

    1. The spring stiffness is set too high.

    2. Valve bore too small.

    3. Valve cores, valve rods, push rods, etc., are stuck.

    Exclusion Methods:

    1. Replace the spring.

    2. Increase the bore size.

    3. Identify the cause of the jam and re-adjust.

Six, Excessive frequency of fluctuation in downstream pressure or upstream pressure, cause:

    1. Valve diameter too large.

    2. The actuator model room capacity is too small.

    Exclusion Method:

    1. Select the appropriate valve size.

    2. Additional dampers are installed in the inlet pipeline.

A pressure reducing valve is an intelligent valve that utilizes the energy of the medium itself to regulate and control pipeline pressure. Used in domestic water supply, fire protection water supply, and other industrial water supply systems, it can adjust the main valve's outlet pressure by regulating the pressure-reducing pilot valve. We should pay attention to daily maintenance.
