Biosafety Cabinet

Biological Safety Level 1 (BSL-1): Suitable for highly familiar pathogens that do not commonly affect adults or pose a risk to laboratory personnel or the environment. There is no need to separate the laboratory from general traffic in the building. Work is typically conducted on open laboratory benches following standard graded biological procedures.

No special containment equipment or facilities (such as biological safety cabinets) are required or used.

Supervised by qualified scientists with experience in dealing with the pathogen. All procedures related to handling the infectious source are conducted within a biological safety cabinet or other physical containment devices, with the use of Level 2 or higher biological safety cabinets. The laboratory requires special design and construction, with the indoor environment maintaining negative pressure.
