Wall crack repair
Cracks in wall paint layers leading to wall cracks are primarily caused by poor quality wall paint and improper handling during the painting process. If the cracks are only on the surface paint film, they can be sanded away with fine sandpaper, and the wall can be repainted with paint in the same color scheme.
2. Wall Crack Treatment - Wall structural layer cracks
Cracks in the structural layers of the wall itself can also lead to cracks in the exterior wall. There are two scenarios. One is that the original wall had cracks, and no appropriate measures were taken during the later renovation process; the other is that the original wall did not crack during the renovation but later, due to uneven settlement of the foundation and significant temperature changes, cracks may appear. Such cracks are generally unrepairable by standard renovation methods, so professional structural engineers must be consulted to take appropriate measures based on the actual situation.
3. Wall crack treatment for plaster layer cracks
Walls can have normal and abnormal cracks. Normal cracks are primarily caused by the shrinkage of cement mortar; abnormal cracks are mainly due to improper materials or construction techniques. Normal cracking is difficult to prevent, but abnormal cracking can be avoided. If there are large areas of hollows in the plaster layer, the original plaster should be knocked off and a new cement mortar plaster layer should be applied. After leveling, paint as per the normal procedure. However, this process is relatively costly. If there are only small areas of cracking without sanding, hollowing, or peeling, a piece of good fabric can be applied to the wall and then painted according to the normal process.
4. Wall crack treatment - bottom crack of wall joint
Cracks at the bottom of wall joints can cause surface cracks in the wall. Joint cracking mainly occurs at the junctions of reinforced concrete shear walls and ceramic bricks, reinforced concrete beams and ceramic bricks, blocked doors, and the joints between gypsum board partition walls and the original wall. Cracks at the joints are primarily caused by environmental factors or external forces. Gypsum boards, prefabricated partition panels, and prefabricated floor slabs can shorten and change direction, leading to cracks at the joints, usually vertical or horizontal. It is recommended to repair after the entire building has stabilized in shape. Repairs done in a short period of time may result in recurrence.
5. Wall Crack Filling Putty Layer
Joint compound makes walls smoother and finer, with much higher flatness than cement walls, allowing for better painting and also saves paint. If the joint compound layer cracks, it will only cause the surface layer to crack. Therefore, attention should be paid to preventing cracks in the joint compound layer during construction. If cracks have渗入 the joint compound layer, first use a sharp tool to enlarge the crack to the size of a screwdriver, then fill it with caulk and sand it flat, apply mesh or kraft paper, and then use joint compound. Paint or wallpaper can be used as normal.
