1. Utilization and Management
An axial flow pump is a high-speed pump with a typical speed ratio of 500 to 1000. The faster the speed, the lower the head and the greater the flow rate. Due to the steep QV-H performance curve of axial flow pumps, valves in the discharge pipe should not be closed during startup, as this would result in excessive starting power and potentially overload or damage the motor. Axial flow pumps use adjustable blades to regulate flow.
2. Features and Applications
Axial flow pumps offer advantages such as high flow rate, simple structure, lightweight, compact size, and minimal floor space. For adjustable axial flow pumps, they can still operate at high efficiency when the operating conditions change by adjusting the blade angle; however, due to their lower head, their application range is limited. To improve the head performance of axial flow pumps, they can also be manufactured as multi-stage pumps.
Axial flow pumps generally exhibit poor cavitation performance, allowing only a vacuum level of 4~5 mH2O (40~50 kPa). Due to the inherent characteristics of axial flow pumps, high flow rate is one of their developmental directions.
Currently, our country has developed a series of large-diameter axial flow pumps, with a structural trend towards adjusting the direction of the regulating blades.
