Structural steel, commonly used in modern construction materials, requires proper fire prevention measures in daily use. Let's take a look below:
1. Adding an external layer to steel structures can be cast in place or sprayed. The cast-in-place concrete sheath is typically reinforced with wire mesh or rebar to limit shrinkage cracks and ensure the shell's strength. The spraying method involves applying a sand pump to the steel surface at the construction site to form a protective layer, which can be lime cement or gypsum mortar, possibly mixed with perlite or asbestos. Additionally, the external layer can be made into prefabricated panels using perlite, asbestos, gypsum, or asbestos cement, light concrete, and then fixed to the steel structure with adhesives, nails, or bolts.
2. Hollow steel structural frames are filled with water. This is an effective fire protection measure, as it helps maintain lower temperatures in the steel frame during a fire, allowing water to circulate within the structure and absorb the heat generated by the materials. The heated water, after cooling, can be recycled or replaced with cool water through pipes.
3. Add expansion materials. Utilizing steel structural fire-retardant coatings to protect components offers advantages such as excellent fire and heat insulation properties, construction that is not limited by the geometric shape of the steel structure, and generally no need for auxiliary facilities. The coating is lightweight and also serves an aesthetic decorative purpose, making it a modern advanced fire protection measure. With the increasing number of high-rise steel structural buildings, particularly in high-rise constructions, the use of steel structural materials is becoming more widespread. In the event of a fire in high-rise buildings, it is not easy to extinguish the fire in a short period of time, which necessitates enhancing the fire protection of building materials during architectural design to increase their fire resistance. It also requires establishing necessary emergency plans within the building to minimize casualties and property damage. Steel structures can be set within walls or ceilings composed of fire-resistant materials, or the components can be concealed in the gaps between two walls, achieving fire protection with minimal or no additional fire-resistant materials. This is an economical approach.
When utilizing steel structures, it's essential not only to conduct routine fire prevention measures but also to inspect them based on the usage environment to ensure proper use.
