Winter steel structure anti-corrosion work

As winter approaches, we will be implementing insulation and corrosion prevention measures on some equipment and steel structures. When conducting corrosion prevention, what should we pay attention to?

Do not arbitrarily add drying agents or other chemical additives due to personal opinions or similar issues, as this may cause paint to crack and other film defects.

2. During outdoor steel structure anti-corrosion construction, the outdoor temperature must not be lower than 5 degrees Celsius, and the relative humidity must not exceed 85%.

3. Prohibit construction on any layer that has not dried properly or been sanded correctly, as this may lead to issues such as chipping and peeling.

4. Due to low winter temperatures, the drying time of paint is extended, and the paint film is in contact with the external air for a relatively longer period. Dust particles in the air are more likely to adhere to the paint film surface, resulting in a granular phenomenon (more pronounced during dry air conditions). Therefore, for an improved paint film effect, please ensure the cleanliness of the environment before applying paint.

Do not apply the paint in a single thick coat; otherwise, issues such as adhesion failure, discoloration, cracking, pinholes, and bubbles in the film may occur.

6. After adjusting the paint, it's not advisable to leave it to sit for too long; the longer it sits, the more the luster will diminish. The viscosity of the paint changes with temperature; when it's cooler, the viscosity increases significantly, which can lead to a higher amount of thinner needed, resulting in a decrease in the paint's luster and fullness. During application, avoid applying too thick a coat of paint at once. Therefore, reduce the thickness of each spray and increase the number of coats to create an environment that dries from the surface inward gradually.
