Dianthus chinensis

Dianthus chinensis Morphological Features: The plant is hairless, diverse, with basally clustered, grass-like leaves. The stem and leaf junction forms a sheath, wider in diameter than the stem. The flowers are in clusters, with a cylindrical calyx that slightly tapers at the top. Like all Dianthus species, there is a series of opposite bracts surrounding the calyx, about half the length of the calyx.

Stem is hairless with a diverse appearance, featuring a tuft of grass-like basal leaves. The junction of the stem and leaves forms a sheath, wider in diameter than the stem. Flowers are in clusters, with a cylindrical calyx that slightly narrows at the top. As with all Caryophyllaceae plants, there is a series of opposite bracts surrounding the calyx, about half the length of the calyx. Flowers have veining, diameter of 20-30mm, deep pink, with 5 saw-toothed petals.

Grows in arid regions, grasslands, and open woodlands. Prefers cool and temperate environments.

Covering the Mediterranean region except for Greece, with widespread distribution in central and western Europe.
