The primary working principle involves submerging the lower end of the bucket bridge to a certain depth underwater, allowing it to contact the dredging soil layer. Subsequently, the continuous operation of the bucket chain, driven by the upper guide wheel, moves the mud in the buckets, collects it after excavation, and elevates it out of the water with the rotation of the bucket chain, then transports it to the top of the tower. After passing through the upper guide wheel to change direction, the sand and mud inside the buckets fall into the mud well of the bucket tower under their own gravity. The sand and mud are then discharged over the sides of the dredger through the mud chutes. During operation, the chain bucket dredger typically moves slowly on the water surface. The rotating sprockets drive the chain, causing the buckets to rotate, and then lift silt and debris onto the deck, which is then poured into subsequent processing equipment. After necessary processes such as screening and water washing, the material is conveyed and unloaded to designated locations.

The theoretical calculations were reviewed by the East China Ship Design Institute of Wuhan University of Technology, resulting in a complete set of design drawings. The drawings were then submitted to the Jinan Ship Inspection Bureau for review and approval.
